Substance Painter Reviews
We have 1 review for Substance Painter. The average overall ratings is 4.0 / 5 stars.
Overall Opinion: Substance Painter is an excellent platform for 3D design. Regardless of whether designers are creating CGI elements for movies or models for video games, this software is one of the most powerful tools you can have at your disposal. The first thing about this software that should be praised is the particle spray effect. This painting tool creates an excellent and realistic effect, coloring only model items that are touched by the generated particles. This is revolutionary for shading and advanced coloring in the 3D model world. Another great feature that impressed me is the repainting feature that Substance Painter contains. It allows users to re-texture their models without losing color or shading. This is a great feature that saves countless hours over the long run. Substance Painter will even repaint textures to fit into the overall model design, seamlessly blending colors over a new texture pack. Perhaps one of the most exceptional features that Substance Painter possesses is its compatibility with game engines and portfolio exports. Currently on the market, there is no software that possesses a compatibility list with as many game engines. Some of these engines include Unreal and Unity. One of the only drawbacks about Substance Painter is how resource intensive it is. If you are running the software on powerful rig, you may still run into performance issues. While this is to be expected, using a program as powerful as Substance Painter, it is a little aggravating. In the future, either Allegorithmic will create a more streamlined architecture for their software or hardware capability will fix this problem. The other drawback that Substance Painter has is the glitches that occur when installing and running the software. It seems that Substance Painter is a little picky with its hardware and driver requirements, so it would be best to spec out a computer based upon the requirements posted on the Allegorithmic website for an optimal experience.
