Mailpile Reviews
We have 1 review for Mailpile. The average overall ratings is 4.0 / 5 stars.
Overall Opinion: Mailpile takes a lot of the control away from other email clients so you can have complete control over your online privacy and communications. For instance, if you use a free service like Gmail, you are opening yourself up to an invasion of privacy simply because it goes along with receiving a free account. Data mining is a common process amongst free email clients, and that data is then used to find targeted ads to which you are most likely to respond. Many of these larger companies, like Google, are starting to create singular privacy policies that affect a wider range of their products. This helps them consolidate your user data even further so they can get the best possible view of your likely spending habits. With Mailpile, you won't have to worry about such an invasion of privacy. Mailpile is focused on giving you an online mail client that won't infringe on your right to privacy. Since the software is hosted locally, you won't have to view ads to use the software. The additional security features are able to keep your communications private and secure, and the goal of the software is to create a new direction for users in the hopes that larger email clients will realize the value of giving users their privacy. One of the main differences between this sort of software and typical free webmail clients is the amount of storage that can be used outside of the local system. For a long time, webmail clients also had an advantage since they could provide access to user email from anywhere in the world with active internet. You'll have to set up port-forwarding or use some sort of tunneling service, but you can access email from your local Mailpile account over the web as well. Of course, you'll only be able to access the email if the base machine is turned on. If you have a virtual private server, you can use Mailpile on that system. Of course, it might be possible for outsiders to gain access to your data in this way. Most data experts would tell you not to use such sensitive data through a virtual private server for security reasons, but if you have little risk in terms of intellectual property theft or classified information transfer, the system should be fine. Even if you are worried about such a breach when using a VPS, be aware that any potential invader would have a much harder time accessing your data in that fashion compared to accessing it through a free webmail client.
Pros: Completely Free Totally Private
Cons: Locally Hosted System Access Required

I initially released these on DoCasts.com back in late 2014. I've decided to just add them to my channel here for your enjoyment and for a smoother educational experience. Please forgive...
