Overall Opinion: The poser figure remains a popular form of media. Poser was one of the first programs to provide development tools for creating poser figures. The software is now in its 11th release, and the latest version offers many new features. Poser lets users create figures with a smoother joint structure, making the figures more realistic and lifelike. There is also a PBR renderer included in the framework which is called SuperFly. This feature lets users approach the results which can be obtained with Reality and other PBR plug-ins. Enhancements have been made to the Advanced Feature Room of the software, but otherwise the program is much the same as it has always been. The renderer is not as fast as it is on some other programs. The speed at which an image is rendered can depend upon multiple factors. These include the user's CPU, GPU, and the amount of content one wishes to include in a rendering. Those who use the software to create content will appreciate that the latest version incorporates the ability to generate handles for garments. The Smooth Translation of Joints feature may be the best aspect of the program. A problem with some poser software is that joints can seem pointed and sharp. This tool makes them more fluid and natural. The end result is a more accurate rendering of the human anatomy. Morph targets can be created with this software, and it is possible to export these creations. Overall, the program is somewhat dated. It is also relatively hard to use for the newcomer to poser art. It still works, but the platform may have bid farewell to its glory days.
Pros: Better rendering of joints Adaptive rigging Area lights
Cons: Significant learning curve Dated interface Not enough functionality in PBR renderer
