Overall Opinion: SMPlayer is a high-quality media player with a ton of features that makes it hard to believe that it is free to use for Windows and Linux users. You can play almost any type of video or audio file on the player, and the tools are easy to navigate and use to change playback or perform other tasks. The open-source player comes with the necessary codecs already installed. This allows you to simply drag and drop an audio or video file of any format into the player to view or listen. Before you start playing a media file, you can visit the preferences section of the player to customize settings and access all of the features available. One feature available is for the player to keep track of settings for each type of file and load these settings when you come back to this type of file. You can also load any subtitles that come with the video, or search for and download subtitles if they are not available. The keyboard and mouse settings give you the option to change shortcuts and set up functions for each button on the mouse while in playback mode. The playback mode offers all of the basic features of a media player, including playback speed, zoom, screen rotation, subtitle activation, and jumping to a specific part. Besides traditional media files, you can also find videos hosted on YouTube and play them in the SMPlayer. With all of the added features and playback capabilities, the free SMPlayer is a worth a try for any Windows or Linux user.
