Overall Opinion: The internet has changed the way we consume information, and while it may seem like all the knowledge we could need is constantly at our fingertips, the reality of that can sometimes seem underwhelming. Digg Reader serves as a filter for this limitless flow of information, a curator that provides users with the news and information that's relevant to their needs and interests. Digg Reader is based off of the web feed style known as Rich Site Summary (RSS) which converts chosen information into uniform, readable information and regularly updates this information for the user. In practice, Digg Reader serves as a filter that lets the user pick which information on the web is streamed as RSS information and displayed in the app. That doesn't mean you have to start from scratch with your Digg Reader feed. The Reader was initially designed as a replacement for the failed Google Reader, and users who have an account there can easily transfer their information over by logging in via a Google account. You can also use Digg Reader as a way to integrate your specific news media feed with your social media presence. Linking your Facebook or Twitter accounts to Digg Reader allow you the option of sharing articles with a tap of your finger. Digg Reader also works in conjunction with Instapaper, Pocket, and Readability, apps that can take longer form articles from your Reader feed and make them easier to read on your tablet or phone. Other users can even follow your Reader feed directly, and options are available for private and public sharing, so you have more control by which to filter the experiences you share with your friends and family. The central conceit of Digg Reader is its ability to give you access to large amounts of news in a clean and easily approachable interface, and every inch of its interface is designed to accommodate that. The news sources you choose to follow are all displayed in a left-side panel, and these specific subsections can be organized into folders or files as per your preferences. The larger panel to the right displays the articles relevant to the folder or section you've chosen. Clicking on these articles opens them up in the browser and allows you to read them in full. It's a simple design that's fully devoted to the task at hand. Search functionality allows you to add whatever feed you're looking for directly, search through a wide range of categories in pursuit of the information you need, or draw from recommendations curated by Digg. The ability to nest and collapse folders in the left panel provide a sophisticated level of control regarding what you see and when. Digg Reader is a free app available for both Android and iOS devices.

Pros: A no-nonsense approach to the UI makes the information you need easily accessible Makes it easy to explore new content and explore categories that users find of particular interest Strong customization options for user feeds

Cons: Must have a Twitter, Facebook, or Google account to log in Private and public sharing options aren't always clear Interface isn't aesthetically striking
