Hexagon Reviews
We have 1 review for Hexagon. The average overall ratings is 4.0 / 5 stars.
Overall Opinion: Hexagon is a free 3D modeling program with features comparable to tools found in programs that cost hundreds (and even thousands) of dollars, such as Maya, 3D Max, Lightwave and Modo. It can even be argued that it has better modeling tools than some of those packages. Hexagon was originally developed as a standalone program that was not inexpensive, prior to Daz buying it and integrating it into their 3D software. The program is intended primarily for creating organic models such as complex human characters, and it can modify previously created models that Daz sells, or those exported from programs such as Poser. It also quite adept at hard-body modeling such as making buildings and cars and a wide variety of props. You can further export models from Hexagon, for use in animations programs such as Blender. Among its many features are tools for morphing meshes that can then be used in animation programs, and a brush tool for applying displacements to a mesh. Hexagon is not without its limitations. It doesn't have the kind of sculpting tool that is now common in modern 3D modeling applications, for creating highly detailed meshes, and it also isn't the best at UV unwrapping. Furthermore, it is prone to crashes on some systems. Still, at its price, it cannot be beat.
Pros: Completely free to use, without any limitations or royalties Can import and export objects from just about any other 3D package Well integrated within a workflow that includes Poser and Daz Studio
Cons: There is no sculpting tool for creating highly detailed meshes Poor UV mapping capabilities Prone to crashing on some systems
