Seafile Reviews

by grex about Seafile on July 31, 2018:
The meteoric growth of cloud computing have signified a tide change in how we store and share information. Where running a complex business required a significant investment in local server sources and IT management, cloud hosting platforms now offer the same services at a fraction of the price and with a fraction of the oversight. Seafile is a software as a service solution that provides cloud storage solutions to clients. Their service is easily scalable, making it as sensible an investment for casual users as it is for the largest businesses around.

Of course, the features are going to make or break a product like this, but Seafile has been visionary with their approach to cloud storage. They understand the demands of complex businesses, and they've taken the proper steps to address them. Chances are that your business wants to segregate its data, limiting who in your organization has access to what information, and the clean and clear interface of Seafile makes this easy. All of your files are categorized into libraries which can then be synced to individual devices. That allows you to neatly compartmentalize your information and provide syncing privileges on a case by case basis. That means that different departments can have access to the precise bundle of files that they need, and you can adjust these privileges to suit the changing demands of your projects. Seafile's desktop platform is supported by mobile clients, so every member in your organization can have quick and easy access to the files they need regardless of what device they're using to access it. Their syncing performance is impressively strong, allowing tens of thousands of small files to be tethered to a device in a mere matter of minutes.

When you upload files to your cloud, they just aren't floating in space. Seafile makes use of a Seafile Drive client which resembles the look and feel of a traditional hard drive system so that you can organize everything to your heart's content and access all of these files without having to go through the syncing process. Files stored in the Seafile Drive can be accessed even when you aren't online. Additionally, sharing options allow you to give writing or read-only privileges to clients or workers on an individual basis without providing them with syncing privileges.

Security is important here, and Seafile makes use of automated file versioning and snapshotting to make sure that you can revert to an old version of your file even if the worst happens. The ability to lock files allows you to prevent damage caused by concurrent editing or the accidental creation of redundancies. Online editing and co-authoring is also supported when working with documents when integrated with a proper server. This resembles the sort of service you'll find in Microsoft's Office 365 platform or the Google cloud suite.
