My Opinion on Datacamp

Overall Opinion: Perhaps the most fundamentally important the internet's growth has brought is the vast prevalence of new information. Everyone with access to an internet connection now has access to seemingly endless amounts of data, but that also means the world needs experienced people with the training and experience to analyze, compile, and process that information. DataCamp recognizes that data science is a field that's only going to become more important for the following generations, and that's why they've created a training platform focused solely on the ins and outs of this emerging industry. By focusing on such a narrow field, they can provide highly accurate, meaningful, and nuanced courses to their students. Many data scientists recognize R as being the lingua franca of their field, so it's not surprise that DataCamp uses this language as the cornerstone of their curriculum. Lessons in the R language constitute the bulk of Datacamp's platform, with lessons appropriate for everyone from amateurs to experienced data science, but it doesn't cover everything. A strong grasp of data science requires an understanding of other languages that run either parallel or complementary to R, and these are all covered by the lesson plans. There are lessons on data management tools like SQL as well as >_shell, Git, and Python. Together, this allows students to develop a comprehensive and holistic approach to the fundamentals of data science. One of the main advantages offered by platforms like these are the way in which they allow users to learn at their own pace. All lessons are handled directly through the app platform. To better cater their materials to the specific learning behaviors of their students, Datacamp has created three main styles of course. These include courses that combine video lessons with coding exercises, a freeform practice mode that comes supported with real time feedback, and real world problems that can help students more reliably understand how the skills they're learning can be of value in the field. If you're looking to just play around with the curriculum, you can pick courses a la carte from their vast library of courses. Users looking for a more guided experience have various tracks to choose from. New users can choose a track that guides them from a basic understanding of the language through more complex components with real world application. More experienced programmers can choose tracks that are narrowed down to more specialized fields and hone their skills specifically. Helpful descriptions of each course track let you know how these skills can be applied in the real world and how much one can expect to make once these skills have been mastered. A number of free courses are available, and free users, and aspiring students can access all materials by subscribing to a monthly plan.

Pros: More cost-effective than many comparable learning programs Specialized instruction provides a more detail-oriented approach to learning Free courses let curious users dip their toes in the water

Cons: Testing isn't as rigorous as many other learning platforms Lack of repetition makes it less ideal for students who rely on rote learning Advanced level course require a financial investment
