Google for Education Reviews
We have 1 review for Google for Education. The average overall ratings is 4.0 / 5 stars.
Overall Opinion: Google has long positioned themselves as more than just a search engine. Their aggressive approach to creating a suite of tightly integrated internet-based applications has made it a leader in productivity software for both personal and professional needs. Google for Education is built off the same framework of software that Google has created for the private sector and made some alterations better suited to the needs of primary and university level educators. Google for Education's collection of apps are all based in the cloud, so it's easy for educators and their students to connect without the need to install proprietary software. Anyone with a functioning internet connection and a modern web browser can get access to all the information in the Google for Education catalog. What really makes Google for Education work so well is its accessibility. While that may come as little surprise to people who have been using Google's apps for years, it's still worth noting how smoothly these apps function together. Google leverages the breadth and popularity of their platform effectively. All the aspects of their architecture run smoothly in Chrome, making them useful whether you need to access it on your computer, phone, or tablet. The process by which educators can add new students to their platform is easy, and students can log in to all of the necessary components of the suite with a basic Google account. Google Drive has long been the beating heart of the company's productivity suite, and that's still the case with their education platform. Determining how users collaborate is easy, as teachers can quickly assign the documents they update to Google Drive as viewable or editable to anyone within their class. Since Google's services are cloud-based, that means students can access classroom materials as soon as they're uploaded, and teachers can comment on assignments submitted by their students at any time and respond to feedback neatly and easily without having to schedule appointments or worry about office hours. Assignments can be graded, commented on, and returned to students directly through Google's whole education suite is centralized around Google Classroom, which serves as a sort of command center for teachers. They can set up as many classrooms as they like, allowing them to compartmentalize assignments and schedules according to the demands of their students. On a higher level, Google Suite allows Google to serve as a framework for an entire department or school. A unified calendar and reminder system simplifies the process by which administrators and teachers communicate. You can create to-do lists, schedule appointments, and remind staff of upcoming events or changes to curriculum through one simple interface. If finding time for face-to-face meetings is difficult, the email, chat, and video conferencing features help everyone stay on the same page without having to get together in person.
Pros: Easy to use interface makes it easy for the entire class to connect Similarity to Google's existing and prevalent software suite minimizes the learning curve
Cons: Lack of automated updates mean users need to refresh to be aware of changes Facilitating peer-to-peer communications between students can be difficult Can't be used to create automated tests and quizzes
