Overall Opinion: One of the hardest tasks associated with academic writing is creating proper citations. RefWorks is a web-based application that can remove the tears from this tedious process. This program allows individuals to store important references and citations in the Cloud. Users don't have to worry about misplacing important reference material. College institutions typically provide free access to RefWorks for enrolled students and faculty. Individuals can use their email address to create their own account, and each account comes with 100GB of document storage. A strong feature of the program is the ability to export directly from search results. This can save time and help users keep track of obscure references that may or may not be used in the final draft of their paper. There is also an add-on for major web browsers that allows users to save references to their RefWorks database with a single click. It should be noted, however, that some browsers seem to have an issue with this feature working properly. References can also be manually entered into the database. Once references are entered, citations can be automatically created. It is also possible to create an entire bibliography with a single click. Students can take comfort in knowing that their references have been formatted properly according to multiple formats. It is possible to create citations and a bibliography using APA, MLA, and other formats. There is also a feature that will allow users to transfer references from other reference managers to the RefWorks platform. This program is very valuable to academics. It helps to insure that works are cited properly, and it aids in the prevention of plagiarism.

Pros: Saves references in the Cloud Web-based Free use for an institution's students and educators

Cons: Browser add-on works poorly on some browsers Not offered by all colleges

grex is using RefWorks every other week recently.
