My Opinion on Wekan

Overall Opinion: The idea of the kanban is one that's pervaded the creative workspace for years. Built from the simple principles of workplace visualization, it allows for a less tightly structured alternative to traditional workflow charts that promotes collaborative thinking and allows benchmarks and objectives to be altered and updated to the necessarily shifting demands that arise from a complicated project. This has made it a useful visualization in fields as far afield as television writers rooms and software development projects. While the kanban board principle is often applied to real world whiteboards, the development of Trello, an online tool that builds strategically off of the basic kanban board premise, fundamentally changed how teams manage their productivity. Wekan is an open source tool that takes what Trello did right and makes some major alterations designed to have an even wider and more positive impact on the workplace. One of the major elements separating Wekan from the competition is the fact that it's an open source application. This brings with it a number of strengths. Administrators with coding experience can further alter the software to match the particular needs of their business model and create an infrastructure accommodating to the unique productivity requirements of their teams. But users are provided with a pretty versatile range of options even if they don't know the first thing about programming. You can manage as many boards as you'd like, interlink them, and create administrative settings that give you full control over who can view, read, and edit each of them. This allows you to further segregate your workflow and make sure your employees don't get distracted by information they don't need access to. Boards can be set to private or public functionality, and your dashboard can be further customized with shortcuts that make it easy for higher level members of your management team to access the information they need when they need it. Within each board's structure, you have even more control over functionality. The ability to set limits on tasks help to prevent feature creep, an issue particularly prevalent when dealing in app and software development. Wekan runs directly through your browser, but if you're looking for a less cluttered experience, the ability is available to transfer Wekan to a full screen mode that reduces the presence of your browser menus and buttons. As projects develop, so do the demands, and numerous phases may necessitate a vast amount of boards. That's why Wekan offers archiving functionality. Boards where all objectives have been completed can be stored away for later rather than deleting them, so if you need to reference back to your earlier checklists or milestones, you'll have the means. Each user has functionality settings of their own as well. By muting a board, they can prevent the constant onslaught of notifications from that board. Meanwhile, watching or tracking them means they'll be in the know whenever new changes are made.

Pros: Open source structure allows more control over Wekan's design Clean and brightly color coded interface is visually appealing Can run on desktops and mobile devices seamlessly

Cons: Users with a lack of coding experience will find Wekan largely not that different from Trello
